Job Title: Senior Internet Systems Engineer
Job Mission:
• Provide operational and technical leadership in Internet system engineering, supporting both local and global MSN and Windows Live services within the Asia region
• Ensure maximum performance and reliability (through the application of QoS best practices) for all Microsoft online services hosted throughout Asia (Non-Corporate IT/Intranet) under the remit of the China Service Management team.
• Provide technical consulting expertise to product (development) groups around deployment / migration / and optimization of sites and services within the region.
Position Description:
• The Senior Internet Systems Engineer (SSE) is a lead escalation point within the Engineering team, partnering with customers and vendors (internal and external) to perform such tasks as service design reviews. They are tasked with ensuring optimized solution delivery for all Microsoft online services within the Asia region.
• The candidate will be expected to apply their technical knowledge (networking, peering, infrastructure, hosting, performance, QoS, etc...) to pro-actively work with (and promote excellence within) product development groups within the region.
• The SSE also works closely with product groups to review, optimize, and simplify the overall architecture and supportability, eliminating system integration issues during the pre-release lifecycle. As such ongoing QoS and performance analysis initiatives (system, connectivity, application, and browser/client) are a significant part of the role.

This is a hands-on position, working closely with peers in China, Japan, India, Europe, and the US, sharing a live ticketing queue to work across a range of project and tasks affecting production Internet web services. The successful candidate will also be considered to be an application and platform expert, with tier 3 or above support and escalation experience, and is expected to be available as a senior escalation point for 24x7 contact as required.
Key Areas of Responsibility: Service Operations and Systems Engineering
•Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and patterns responsible for performance and availability bottlenecks, offering solutions to the issues found
•Create documentation both following and enhancing processes around site and service on boarding (such as Technical Feasibility Assessments), working with the US based Horizontal Program Management team
•Work closely with the appropriate Service Managers and business owners to provide performance and reliability feedback to the relevant product groups
•Assist in the deployment of all products released by the MSN/Live Product groups running on Windows server 2003/2008, SQL Server 2000/2005 and Internet Information Server (IIS) 5/6.
•Provide guidance to product development teams on application design, operability, manageability, security and data-flows
•Provide technical expertise in the timely resolution of service interrupting incidents.
•Perform QoS and performance / availability analysis reporting
•Advise and advocate Web hosting best practices
•Advise and advocate TCP/IP, site and resource management (VIP, DNS, LBL.) best practices
•Provide root cause analysis troubleshooting around incidents and system failures, producing improvement plans defining how to avoid such failures in the future

Education and Professional Qualification Requirements:
• Computer Science Degree or equivalent desirable
• Industry awareness and applicable technical experience
• Hosting experience and proven live site management experience
