Whistler's Mountain in Jasper:
It is not very far from the town of Jasper. You can take the tramway (gondola) ride up the slope of Whistler`s mountain (3243 feet, or 973 metres) right to the upper station observatory deck and lookout.
Once at the top, you can hang around the observatory chalet, strolling around the boardwalk, and if you are an adventurous person, hike the summit trails which lead beyond the boardwalk perimeters. There seem to be miles of miles of trails.
One interesting fact is that you could almost experience the 4 seasons in a matter of a few hours before and after you arrived the top of the mountain. The weather can change quite dramatically this high up in the mountains, and you can literally find yourself completely disoriented as a cloud of mist and fog can suddenly swirl up out of nowhere and completely obscure everything within 15 feet of view - including the trail ahead and behind you.
On this particular day, it was sunny and summer warm at the bottom of the hills (I did not say hot, 'cause in Jasper it will never be hot even in Summer). Once on top, you would feel the chill and you see snow on the ground and the cloud is underneath you. In a matter of 10 – 20 minutes, it started to be cloudy and heavily overcast. You would watch in amazement as a huge cumulous would roll up the side of the mountain, and completely envelope you in a cloud of mist. It was both nerve-wracking and exhilarating at the same time. You are - quite literally - in the clouds. It was breathtaking (literally and figuratively!). It rained for about a half hour and cleared right away, and it was sunny, though a bit chill summer day, again.
Hiking is definitely recommended.
